Hidden in Plain Sight: Psychotherapeutic of Trauma & Addiction | Sharone Abramowitz, MD, FASAM, FAIHM

This presentation is part of the 2020 State of the Art in Addiction Medicine conference which covers an expansion of treatment into correctional health, hospital consultation services and emergency rooms. It will cover how, despite the pandemic, telehealth can reach those who are isolated. It will address the worrisome trends in fentanyl, methamphetamine, tobacco and benzodiazepines use; legalization of cannabis, treatment updates for youth, cannabis and alcohol in pregnant women; and novel treatments such as non-benzodiazepines for alcohol withdrawal and psychedelics for substance use disorders.

Sharone A. Abramowitz, MD, FASAM, FAIHM

Dr. Abramowitz has an integrative mental health & addiction medicine practice in San Francisco & Oakland and is on the CSAM Board as the founding chair of the Integration and Access to Systems of Care Committee. She is ABPM certified in addiction medicine, has a certification in Sensorimotor Psychotherapy (a trauma focused therapy), and completed a 2 year integrative medicine fellowship through the Academy of Integrative Health & Medicine-- where she is now on their faculty. Since becoming an MI trainer in 2002, she has trained numerous health organizations, and is the founder of AbramowitzHealthyCommunicating.com. After completing a UCSF psychiatry residency--where she won an award for unusual concern for the welfare of patients--she completed a 25 year career as the director of Behavioral Health & Addiction Medicine training for the internal medicine residency at Highland Hospital, a safety net hospital in Oakland, where she taught internists how to attend to psychosocial trauma in their patients.
