New DEA Education Requirement on Substance Use Disorders
The new, one-time requirement for DEA prescribers to complete 8 hours of education on the treatment or management of patients with opioid or substance use disorders begins June 27, 2023. Any prescriber must complete this training requirement by their next scheduled DEA registration submission. These hours can be combined across multiple education activities.

As explained by California Medical Association, many California-licensed physicians may have already met the requirement as California already requires similar education.
